Dirk Nowitzki hoping for the NBA title
The 2006-2007 NBA regular season MVP, 10 time NBA All-Star and four time All-NBA first team member, Dirk Nowitzki is still waiting for his NBA title. With every playoff exit, and there have been ten consecutive playoffs exits at different stages of the post season over the last 10 years, it seems his last chance just expired. However he doesn’t give up and even though he is almost 33 and has over 1100 games played he does his best and gives it another go.
28 Points, 14 rebounds, that was his stat line in Dallas’ 96-94 win in game 1 over the Lakers in Los Angeles to open their Semi Final series, their first post season meeting since 1988. If you think that is impressive then you don’t know about his 11 fourth quarter points where he pulled his team ahead after starting the fourth quarter with seven points behind. Although his regular season numbers have dropped in the last years, his playoff form remains the same.
However, despite his impressive play Nowitzki still doesn’t have the much sought after title. Doing some web-reading, even if the Mavs manage to beat the Lakers, they aren’t considered favorites to win the title. The team’s past failures gave them the title of „Losers” which unfortunately stuck with them even in their good years.
Putting aside all that, since Nowitzki became the Mavs star player, they haven’t missed the playoffs. This is their 11th consecutive appearance, never winning less than 50 games in the regular season. Who knows? Maybe in the future the title will finally become his. The fans can only wait and see.
